Vertically layered flow structure at confluence of a reservoir and tributary carrying high sediment loads

چکیده
Enhanced understanding of flow structure at a river confluence is essential for predictions sediment transport and morphological evolution. To date, however, the confluent reservoir tributary carrying high loads has remained poorly understood, may be vertically layered sharply, featuring subaqueous sediment-laden flow, i.e., turbidity currents underneath subaerial clear water. Here recently established 2D double layer-averaged model, able to resolve formation, propagation, recession currents, used investigate series idealized laboratory-scale cases prototype case study Guxian Reservoir on Yellow River, China. Four primary patterns stable, reservoir-tributary are identified: 1) single layers inflow in both main channel tributary, sustained by sufficient vertical mixing; 2) layer when suffices block intrusion channel; 3) induced from into clear-water with small discharge tributary; 4) which further divided three subpatterns, as current exists or (tributary) intruding (main channel). In response unsteady inputs upstream, evolves time, fall one identified above. Although bed deformation long term modify pattern remains so far present concerned. The findings have implications evolution reservoir–tributary confluence, studies suggested inform optimization operation schemes mitigate capacity loss caused sedimentation.

Influence of Tributary Widening on Confluence Morphodynamics
iv alpine river confluences. Systematic laboratory experiments were performed in a confluence flume where the main channel is 8.5 m long and 0.50 m wide. A 4.9 m long and 0.15 m wide tributary channel is connected at an angle of 90°. Three discharge scenarios were tested for four different geometrical configurations: a reference case (without widening) and three different tributary widenings: t...
متن کاملConfluence of Layered Rewrite Systems
We investigate the new, Turing-complete class of layered systems, whose lefthand sides of rules can only be overlapped at a multiset of disjoint or equal positions. Layered systems define a natural notion of rank for terms: the maximal number of non-overlapping redexes along a path from the root to a leaf. Overlappings are allowed in finite or infinite trees. Rules may be non-terminating, non-l...

fine sediment input and benthic fauna interactions at the confluence of two large rivers
several studies suggest that invertebrate abundance and richness are disrupted and reset at confluences. thus, junctions contribute disproportionately to the overall aquatic biodiversity of the river. in general terms, authors have reported high abundance and diversity due to the major physical heterogeneity at junctions. however, data are still scarce and uncertainties are plentiful.the impact...
